To finish Day 36, I ended up running 55 minutes in the evening. Too lazy to go to the trails, I ran over to a local dirt track and decided to run 5 miles on it. The goal -- comfortable running at about IM marathon pace, maybe a drop faster - 7 min. miles. Also, I decided not to look at my watch for the first 2.5 miles just to see if I had the pace in my head. 2.5 miles go by VERY comfortably and I had hit 17:18 - perfect, just under 7 min. pace. Of course, that's never good enough, so I decided to do step downs by 2 seconds each of the last 5 800s...so the 2nd 2.5 miles ended up being 16:22 for a total of 33:40 for 5 miles. Then I crawled home, content but a bit spent, though more from the day's work than that particular workout.
Yesterday, day 37, was meant to be primarily a bike day, and I fulfilled that. 2 hrs in the AM followed by another 40 minutes in the evening plus a 10 minute transition run. Felt good all around, and being on the bike practically every day is paying dividends, though my butt feels like it permanently has a bike attached to it (my bike probably feels the same about my butt). Feeling guilty about not swimming maybe as much as I can, but hey, there are only so many hours in the day.
So on to day #38. 48 degrees -- holy CRAP! Got out all the warm clothes and prepared for an interesting workout...ride to the track, 6xmile at IM marathon pace or a drop faster (one lap rest), then ride back (plus a bit). Glad I wore the cap and gloves...it was chilly and breezy! At the track, took off a bunch of clothes and got going. 7 minute pace felt like a walk, so after the 3rd in 6:41, I decided to pick it up just a bit. The last was a solid 6:09, also not much effort (I was focusing more on the last 400 for each of these anyway). After struggling to put my clothes back on and zip zippers and latch clasps with numb fingers, I rode another 40 minutes. Just over 2 hours, felt good, now starved. Note: I ALWAYS seem to be starving now.
Later: TRY to get in a swim.
