IMAZ Day 41: The Century is CONQUERED!!

Today's primary goal was to get the damned 100 mile ride in.
I succeeded!
OK, I'm swallowing the lead and call me silly, but after two tries (and after not really having done one the last time around in 2007), I was tickled to have completed it...and more!
I started early in the dark and fog, having to stop and clean my glasses 3 times. By 7:30 (22 miles in) when I met my riding partner, it had fortunately cleared just a bit and it was light. We rode the next roughly 40 miles mostly together, not pushing the pace but not going easy. Avg. speed was in the mid to high 17s by the end of that.
At roughly 62 miles, I bid "adieu" to my friend and continued solo. I picked up the pace just a bit after the hills through Titicus as I decided to head to Armonk and Mt. Kisco, hoping I could turn before descending one particularly hill that would be nasty on the return. It was not to be. At 87 miles, though, I turned knowing that I had the 100 in the bag based on the return distance. I began to get happy feet (in the pedals).
My nutrition plan was working like a charm. I felt VERY good, no bonk at all. I had 2 large bottles of CarboPro and one small bottle of gatorade/water mix. For food, I had a nut/fruit bar and a Power Bar as well as 4 GUs (2 Roctane/2 Expresso Love). I also had my trusty Endurolytes and, after taking one each of the first 2 45 minute blocks, I took one every 3o minutes until the last 90 minutes when I took two at a time.
At 90 miles, I was feeling it. I picked up the pace and was now averaging over 18 mph. Descending hard and maintaining on the flats, I pressed on, counting each mile. I finally hit 100 (5:23) in Glennville and was totally ecstatic. Onward to home, stopping at Sarbucks at 103 and ultimately hitting 105 in 5:43 (18.5mph average). I felt really good!
After a dinner feeding frenzy, I actually ran 20 minutes just to feel it and to loosen up. I felt OK.
What a day! First 100+, done. One or two more to go.
