An announcement from Wal*Mart today (that you can find here ) noted that the mega-company would begin to work with partners and fund the Center for Innovation in Health Care Logistics, an organization designed to help drive down the cost and raise the efficacy of delivering healthcare. Clearly, this is an important topic to Wal*Mart since the company is funding the effort with...
$1M over 5 years.
OK...granted, it's just invested in Dossia, another healthcare consortium focused on electronic health records for employers/employees (WONderful play on the word "dossier", by the way; much nicer than the non-acronymable name above), but if the company were truly interested in this, one might think it would pony up...$5 million (picture Dr. Evil), maybe a bit sooner, even. But $200K per year is probably less than the cost of replacing the floor tiles in one super center.
I guess it's a start...
